1 leg · 1 level · M
Single-leg, single-deck viaduct carrying maglev passenger only at 600 km/h. The Phase 0-2 Newcastle–Sydney ridge route runs on MMC-VC.
Per-kilometre cost is split into three layers: Structure (the bare elevated platform — foundation, pylon, cap beam, deck, walkway), Services (service-specific equipment installed on the structure), and Install (all field labour and plant). Total per km is the sum of the three. The service items themselves (water, conductors, fibre cable, track, maglev hardware) are catalogued separately on the relevant Service pages and added to deployment cost. Per-km basis: 25 m pylon spacing (40 pylons/km).
The bare elevated platform — foundation, pylon, transverse cap beam(s), longitudinal girders, deck modules, and permanent equipment (walkway, handrails). Module costs are Megafactory pour rate + Hub and die allocation at moderate platform utilisation (~$310/module). Pre-feasibility grade, ±30%.
| Item | Per pylon / span (AUD) | Per-km (AUD) |
|---|---|---|
| Cutter head (sacrificial hybrid) | $10,000 / pylon | $400,000 |
| Caisson ring segments (precast concrete) — 4 m OD, 300 mm wall, C65, 10 rings at 10 m depth | $6,850 / pylon | $274,000 |
| Caisson anchor cap (precast concrete) — 4 m OD annular, 1 per caisson | $935 / pylon | $37,400 |
| Pressure grout — annular grouting, rock socket bond (~1.5 m³/caisson) | $600 / pylon | $24,000 |
| Tubular tension element — 13.375″ × 72 ppf L80 13Cr API 5CT, ~12 m | $5,400 / pylon | $216,000 |
| Pylon column segments (precast concrete) — tapered P#7, 3 segments typical | $2,280 / pylon | $91,200 |
| HB1 transverse cap beam — single-leg ~10 m wide, 17 t | $1,210 / pylon | $48,400 |
| Pylon head / cap | $695 / pylon | $27,800 |
| HB2 maglev longitudinal girders (25 m, 3 per span) | $3,930 / span | $157,200 |
| Walkway, handrails, fall protection | $5,000 / span | $200,000 |
| Structure subtotal | $1,476,000 |
Service-specific equipment installed on the structure to enable the services it carries (saddles, brackets, conduits, guideway supports). The service items themselves — track, conductors, water pipe, fibre cable, maglev hardware — are catalogued separately on the relevant Service pages and added to deployment cost.
| Item | Per span (AUD) | Per-km (AUD) |
|---|---|---|
| Maglev guideway base / saddles (structure-mounted) | $2,500 / span | $100,000 |
| Fibre + signalling conduit | $800 / span | $32,000 |
| Power feeder supports (propulsion auxiliary) | $1,200 / span | $48,000 |
| Services subtotal | $180,000 |
All field labour and plant required to deploy the structure and services. Drilling rig service charged at ~$1,200/hour all-in (crew + plant + fuel). Self-building methodology compresses install cost: rig and crane work from the deck of the already-built section.
| Item | Per pylon / span (AUD) | Per-km (AUD) |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation drilling service (6 hrs × $1,200, 10 m baseline) | $7,200 / pylon | $288,000 |
| Pylon segment erection (3 segs + tubular + tensioning) | $2,500 / pylon | $100,000 |
| HB1 cap beam placement | $1,500 / pylon | $60,000 |
| QA, commissioning | $800 / pylon | $32,000 |
| Girder placement (3 × $400) | $1,200 / span | $48,000 |
| Maglev guideway laying | $3,500 / span | $140,000 |
| Fibre + power pull | $1,500 / span | $60,000 |
| Install subtotal | $728,000 |
Structure + Services + Install. The service items themselves (track, conductors, water pipe, fibre cable, maglev hardware) are catalogued on their respective Service pages and added to deployment cost. Foundation costed at 10 m baseline depth; deeper foundations on river crossings or floodplain sections add cost in proportion.
Pre-feasibility grade, ±30%. Modules costed at Megafactory pour rates from Memo 2 (Megafactory Economics) plus moderate-utilisation Hub and die allocation (~$310/module). Install rates are pre-feasibility benchmarks against light civil construction at corridor scale. All figures AUD. Detailed engineering and quantity surveying required before any binding use.
